Hello All,

I would like to ask you few basic questions on Window 7.

1.Has anyone upgraded from DOS to Windows 7?

2. Should Vista users even bother paying for Windows 7 when, apparently, Windows 7 is just a modified version of Vista (and thus a Vista user can just make the modifications to their system manually to turn it into "windows 7")?

3. What was that thing I saw awhile back about 49.99$ for windows 7?

4. Is it all hype? Should I get Windows 7 or wait for Windows 8...?

5. Do games that work on Windows 95/98 work with Windows 7? (Windows XP offered some "compatibility" mode that doesn't work at all).

6. I'm currently using Windows XP Professional and am VERY satisfied with it. I see one or two minor upgrades in Windows 7 that interest me, but it's not really enough to make me purchase the upgrade.

7. How is everyone's experience with this new operating system? Is anyone having dreaded hardware installation problems?

8. Will my older programs that are designed for XP work with Windows 7?

Thanks to everyone who replies.

Howdy to you too.

1: It's impossible to even do that. Windows 7'll only upgrade from XP upwards.

2: Vista was a big waste of time and resources on Microsoft's part. Even with two service packs on Vista, 7 is still superior in operating speed, configurability and ease of use, so it's well worth the investment if you're on Vista. XP, while it'll still be worth it to upgrade, is still pretty strong though.

3: Possibly the student discount offers that MS ran at the end of last year, a short while after it's release.

4: Windows 7 has recieved a decent response from users, unlike Vista, so this'll give Microsoft an excuse to hold out on number 8 while they let 7's lifespan run it's course. If you plan to upgrade, you might aswell do it now and save waiting a few years on an old OS.

5: Half-Life works perfectly fine on my copy of 7. And it didn't need compatibility updates either. So they should do fine provided your hardware supports it too.

6: Like I said, XP is still a strong platform but you're going to run the risk of Microsoft halting support for it as they divert resources towards supporting 7 and Vista.

7: I have had no problems at all with my 7 install. Of course, I'm running on a rig with updated hardware on it though, and I believe the "Certified for Windows 7" stamp was thrown about quite a bit.

8: Should do. I believe the compatability mode feature is vastly improved in 7 but even then, it Windows 7 runs two architectures so it'll work fine even without.
I've got my 7 copy (torrent) and it is far better than Vista. My laptop battery lasts longer, boot up is quicker and everything seems to load faster.

Whoa! by torrent? Did u get a password to activate or were u just lucky? XD

and I dont feel as lucky until I feel like they get the bugs out of 7 to download by torrent.
It seems to be pretty easy to get a keygen for torrented Windows 7 copies. My friend managed to do it on a whim a week after it was released...

Windows 7's best secret feature
Windows 7 changes things. Now there's an overall "Libraries" folder under which your other folders live, such as Personal Documents, Public Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos.
I freaking love windows 7, far better than Vista
Remeber that you need an activator as well. Just Pirate bay it, you should find a decent one.
